Phenomenal Touch- more than a massage, Part 2

Take in this image. How does this resonate in your body? Ahhh, I can feel the stretch, the elongation; slowly, gently and fully supported from underneath.

Every body likes to get stretched and moved differently. Finding the unique unfolding of the tissue for every client makes it interesting and fun. It isn’t just the arm that is being stretched; you can see the whole shoulder joint including the clavicle, the neck, almost the whole torso is engaged.

A client described feeling pulled like taffy. It takes warming up the tissue to be able to sink into deeper layers and the image of taffy works beautifully to envision how muscles will soften and stretch. If one tries to bend taffy when cold, it will not budge or be brittle and break. When warmed up it can almost be sculpted like clay.

In the image you can see a quality of surrender in letting the whole body respond to a stretch or move. Surrender only can happen if there is trust and the feeling of safety. One can only feel safe when there is enough support and the move or stretch is at the perfect speed for the muscles to let go. If the speed is too fast, the muscles will want to guard and tighten.  Trust also has to develop over time between client and therapist.  Finding and building that trust and providing the safety for the body to unfold is one of the most important goals in my Phenomenal Touch Sessions.

As the image from Part 1, this image is part of the exhibit “Body as Art”; a collaboration of Antje Roitzsch and Deborah Cautela, both Phenomenal Touch Master Practitioners, Photographer Lisa Elizabeth and 4 models.

This exhibit was inspired by having massaged many different bodies over the years and developed the sense of awe, reverence and honor to meet the person where they are. To work with different bodies and body types, treasuring and celebrating each and every one of them as a creation of art.

What is my first Phenomenal Touch Massage session like?

The first session of Phenomenal Touch™ Massage can take up to 2 hours. The intake form you fill out prior to the session will be the starting point to, hear your story as well as establish your comfort level and our boundaries. There is space for you to voice any expectations, goals and concerns.

I step out of the room while you undress to your comfort level and get under the sheets on the table. I will keep you covered during the massage, just uncovering arms or legs being massaged.

We work on the massage table listening to your body’s story, finding spaciousness in tight areas; discovering how your muscles like to be stretched and moved and what feels nurturing and restful. There is no set routine, each session is based on where you are at the moment and what your goals and needs are.

After the massage I will step out and you can observe the changes in your body. When you are dressed you open the door for me to come back in, so we can have a short check in and see what felt great and if there was anything that felt challenging. This is a good time to reschedule your next session. For future sessions it is actually nice to prepay and pre schedule a number of sessions, so you don’t have to deal with logistics after your massage.

What is different about Phenomenal Touch™ Massage?

P1050740Phenomenal Touch™ is 3-dimensional massage, incorporating stretching and moving the recipient in ways that might include draping limbs over the table, or over the practitioner’s (my) leg or arm, letting gravity pull the weight of the recipient’s body into my hands. Variation in speed is part of the method, and sometimes momentum is used to move the recipient about. I use movement to enter tight areas, finding the spaciousness within restrictions.

Active participation:

The receiver is invited to participate and guide the session with 3 words more, less, stop. I let your breath direct me, as well as any non verbal responses like groans, moans and flinches. If you feel like moving and get into a different position, you can do so, I will follow you.

The more active your participation, the more empowered you might feel and the more your needs will truly be met.

Surrender:

Once you are more familiar with the work, you can use your session to build trust and surrender. It might bring you back to a childlike state of being held and nurtured. Trust needs to be earned, takes time and requires feeling safe. Over the period of a few sessions you will notice a difference in how your body is responding and is able to let go. Giving honest feedback will help me improve your experience.

Once a month I offer 15 min. Mini Sessions, so you can get a feel for my work and personality. This will help you determine if we are a good fit and if this work is for you. Give me a call at 207-542-4285 to reserve your spot.

Is your body ready for spring?

Ahhh, Spring is here!

We can get outside to do all the projects we thought about all winter long- work or fun. Just remember your body needs to get eased into physical work.  Building stone walls or putting a deck onto your house is heavy work.  So is cleaning up brush or digging up your garden to prepare vegetable beds. Getting on your bike or on a paddle board is requiring your muscles to work very differently than you are used to. Stretching and loosening your muscles is easy to forget, but your body will be very grateful when you remember.  This is a good way to stay healthy and prevent injury. Loose muscles will be able to work more efficiently and not get strained. Receiving a massage after strenuous work will help recover from aches and pains and get your body back in balance.

Antje Roitzsch has joined the Wellness team at “Camden Whole Health” with her Phenomenal Touch™ massage practice “Healing Arts Maine”.

To introduce herself in the new space, she will offer free 15 min. sessions on Tuesday May 24 from 2-5.

P1060180Antje will add to the center her enthusiasm for helping clients build a relationship with their bodies that is rooted in love, respect, honor and trust.

Antje will support the client in releasing those old patterns and create spaciousness for new movements to emerge, giving the client a full mind body opportunity to change.

The New Office

I have moved into my new office space.  I love it.

For the first time in my 15+ year massage courier have I arranged my own space. I always shared spaces that someone else had decorated.  Being fully represented with who I am is a good feeling and I am sure it will influence the experience of my clients.

Your First Session:

Are you ready to take your massage to a deeper level?

Then come and experience a Phenomenal Touch™ massage.

There is no set routine, each session is based on deeply listening during the intake to where you are at the moment and what you need. It may be to love and accept your body; address physical and emotional trauma and feel deeply nurtured. Plan to devote two hours to yourself.

The fee for the first session is $145.

90 Min. Followup Sessions:

After establishing the initial relationship between client and practitioner we invite you to check in about where you are at in this moment and what your goals are for this session. The massage will give you a chance to deepen your experience with yourself. You will leave the session restored, renewed and rejuvenated and gain a different connection to your body.
