Chair Massages during Community Clinic

nautilus

Seeing the benefit of the 10 min chair massages inspired me to offer them on a regular basis.

Here is how it works:

Location: 91 Elm St. Camden at Camden Whole Health.

Amy Jenner, our acupuncturist has started a community clinic.  A Community Clinic is a group experience where the healing effects are made more potent by the energy of the group.  We will be gathering in the large front waiting room. Amy will offer acupuncture treatments by appointment only. Please call (207) 542-1575 to reserve your spot.  I will offer chair massages, one after the other, for everyone who shows up. Other practitioners might join us in the future.

Date: It will be every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.

Time: It starts at 5:15 pm and goes to about 6:15 or 6:30 depending on how many people show up.

Since I can only work on one person at a time, I suggest you call ahead and reserve your time slot, especially if you are planning to come later. Or come and prepare to wait a little, surrounded by the relaxing and healing energy of the community setting.

Payment: Camden Whole Health is donating the space and I as well as Amy are donating our time, so the session itself is free. But we are collecting donations to go to the food pantry and hope you generously participate. Again- this is in the spirit of community- if you can’t contribute much, that is fine as well.

Contact: call me at 542-4285 or email info@healingartsmaine.com

I hope this offer is well received.  Please join us and stay well during this holiday season.

What is different about Phenomenal Touch™ Massage?

P1050740Phenomenal Touch™ is 3-dimensional massage, incorporating stretching and moving the recipient in ways that might include draping limbs over the table, or over the practitioner’s (my) leg or arm, letting gravity pull the weight of the recipient’s body into my hands. Variation in speed is part of the method, and sometimes momentum is used to move the recipient about. I use movement to enter tight areas, finding the spaciousness within restrictions.

Active participation:

The receiver is invited to participate and guide the session with 3 words more, less, stop. I let your breath direct me, as well as any non verbal responses like groans, moans and flinches. If you feel like moving and get into a different position, you can do so, I will follow you.

The more active your participation, the more empowered you might feel and the more your needs will truly be met.

Surrender:

Once you are more familiar with the work, you can use your session to build trust and surrender. It might bring you back to a childlike state of being held and nurtured. Trust needs to be earned, takes time and requires feeling safe. Over the period of a few sessions you will notice a difference in how your body is responding and is able to let go. Giving honest feedback will help me improve your experience.

Once a month I offer 15 min. Mini Sessions, so you can get a feel for my work and personality. This will help you determine if we are a good fit and if this work is for you. Give me a call at 207-542-4285 to reserve your spot.

Is your body ready for spring?

Ahhh, Spring is here!

We can get outside to do all the projects we thought about all winter long- work or fun. Just remember your body needs to get eased into physical work.  Building stone walls or putting a deck onto your house is heavy work.  So is cleaning up brush or digging up your garden to prepare vegetable beds. Getting on your bike or on a paddle board is requiring your muscles to work very differently than you are used to. Stretching and loosening your muscles is easy to forget, but your body will be very grateful when you remember.  This is a good way to stay healthy and prevent injury. Loose muscles will be able to work more efficiently and not get strained. Receiving a massage after strenuous work will help recover from aches and pains and get your body back in balance.

This is a video I did while still at The Maine Beehive, but the information still applies. Now you can call me directly at 207-542-4285 to schedule your massage to be proactive and stay healthy.

Stay loose, enjoy spring and your projects.

Open Studio Invitation

Come and join us on May 24, Tuesday from 2-5 pm

Antje Roitzsch has joined the Wellness team at “Camden Whole Health” with her Phenomenal Touch™ massage practice “Healing Arts Maine”.

To introduce herself in the new space, she will offer free 15 min. sessions on Tuesday May 24 from 2-5.

P1060180Antje will add to the center her enthusiasm for helping clients build a relationship with their bodies that is rooted in love, respect, honor and trust.

Antje brings her ability and talent as a sculptor to the massage table, giving her the sensibility to touch and work the tissue of the body like clay. She listens with her hands in a three-dimensional, sculptural way.

“I love being the bridge for people to live in their body with greater joy.”

She is especially excited to join a team of wellness practitioners, where it will be possible to offer treatments that complement each other, giving clients support from different angles. For example, if a client is working on shedding old behavior patterns with a counselor, those patterns are also reflected in the muscle tissue of the body. Antje will support the client in releasing those old patterns and create spaciousness for new movements to emerge, giving the client a full mind body opportunity to change.

Besides the well-known benefits of massage, such as maintaining comfort & mobility and dissolving tension & stress, Antje offers support during life transitions. This also may include releasing old trauma, building trust, raising self-esteem, adjusting postural patterns or restoring the body after illness.

To reserve a special timeslot for the free 15 min. introduction call Antje at 542-4285 or check out her website for more information: HealingArtsMaine@wordpress.com

the importance of sleep

I think most people agree that sleep is important- but if we don’t get it, it might be all too easy to downplay it.  We will catch up later.  You can sleep when you are dead…. The things to do just can’t wait.

This interview with Arianna Huffington gives a lot of interesting insight on how important regular sleep really is.  Enjoy.

restoring adrenal balance

The Women to Women in Yarmouth approach to restoring adrenal balance:

Diet – The first and most important step to restore adrenal balance is following our dietary Guidelines:

  • What you eat counts! We recommended eating three meals and two snacks every day. Food has a very powerful impact on how you feel all the time, and can especially impact adrenal function
  • Reduce carbohydrate intake to 16 grams per meal and 7 grams per snack
  • Be sure to include protein at every meal and every snack
  • Eat within 30 minutes of waking which helps keep blood sugar stable
  • Eat healthy fats
  • Avoid gluten
  • Eliminate sugar

Stress – Don’t just talk about it, do something about it! Prolonged stress does affect us in many ways. It not only causes worry, but actually makes your body overproduce the stress hormone, cortisol. Cortisol has far reaching affects causing hormonal imbalance, thyroid dysregulation, sleep disruption, immune suppression, blood sugar dysregulation and weight gain to name a few of the many symptoms it can create. Take these steps to minimize stress:

  • Take 3 long deep breaths daily.
  • Take an “electronic sabbath” for an hour, a day, a weekend – no computers, no cell phones, and nothing work-related. Start with 30 minutes and see how far you can go!
  • Turn off electronics (including TV) one hour before bedtime.
  • Look at the demands in your life – is there something you can say ‘no’ to?
  • Do something just for you at least once per week. Read, journal, take a class or go for a walk!
