Are you affected by an Autoimmune Disease?

Last Weekend I watched the whole series of the Autoimmune Summit.  While I have been familiar with quite a few concepts, this is a great presentation putting all the pieces together in a clear and easy to understand video series: The official Betrayal Series

If you are not dealing with a full blown Autoimmune disease like Parkinson, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid Arthritis or Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) you might think you are not effected.

Think Again: Autoimmune Disease Is At The CORE Of Many Modern Disease…
Including Cancer, Heart Disease, Depression & Suicide.
But it shows up many years before any diagnosis in small signs and symptoms- that is the time to pay attention and adjust the imbalances.
Dr. Tom O’Bryan – Founder Of The Gluten Summit is taking you Behind The Scenes Of The Autoimmune Industry
Here is what he said:
“I’m writing to you let you know of my new series called “Betrayal”, where we take you behind the scenes of the Autoimmune industry. You’ll soon discover what the hidden elements are that cause you and your loved ones to be constantly sick, and left wondering why you’re not getting any better…and are often left without an answer – as to why!
Join me and my team, as we interview over 85+ well respected experts, doctors, functional medicine practitioners, professors, scientists, health advocates, and even survivors of this insidious spectrum of diseases, and watch as we lift the lid on the secrets that are being kept from you about why everyone is so sick.”

Here is the link to The official Betrayal Series

You might try this link and see if you still can get a free replay when you sign up.

I know they need to sell the DVD’s to fund this great mission. I just bought the series myself and might be able to share more once I receive them. But to give you an idea of what is covered, here is Episode 7  where you meet people that have overcome very difficult health problems, covering: “I Reversed Autoimmune Disease! The Emotional Stories of Those That Overcame Multiple Sclerosis, Psoriasis, Lupus, Asthma, Autoimmune Hepatitis, Chronic Fatigue, and More”

Or you can just search youtube for Dr. Tom O’Bryan and Betrayal, there is a lot of info to get you started and you might come back to the series.

All the best in your search to stay healthy and paying attention to the small signs.

In Safe Hands | Massage and PTSD

Here is a repost for an article from the Massage Therapy Journal on Massage therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I currently am reading a lot on the collaborative approaches of psychotherapy and massage therapy.  More about that later. I am thrilled to see an article in the Massage Therapy Journal addressing possible treatment for clients that have suffered trauma. Here is an excerpt of the article with a link to the whole story:

…….For clients with PTSD seeking massage therapy, Fitch believes working through their trauma history with an experienced psychologist or psychotherapist is a must. “If clients with PTSD seek massage therapy before they have done some reflection with a psychotherapist, they could be at risk of worsening their symptoms, becoming triggered by the touch, or feeling depressed or angry,” she explains.

How Can Massage Therapy Help?

……….

According to Fitch, some of the massage therapist’s most powerful tools come from how the massage therapy session itself is handled, from the informed consent and opportunity for a client to ask questions that start each session to the therapist’s ability to respond to the individual’s needs during a session, whether that’s stopping altogether, changing positioning or adapting levels of pressure. “All of these actions ensure that clients are safe and know they can stop the treatment at any time, providing them a safe environment to experience touch,” she explains.

Massage therapists can also provide clients with self-care strategies to help prolong the positive benefits achieved, not only in massage therapy sessions, but with other integrative treatment approaches as well. “People who have been traumatized are no longer at home in their bodies,” Fitch says. “Massage therapists can teach clients safe and effective ways of self-soothing and stress management.”……….

Chair Massages during Community Clinic

nautilus

Seeing the benefit of the 10 min chair massages inspired me to offer them on a regular basis.

Here is how it works:

Location: 91 Elm St. Camden at Camden Whole Health.

Amy Jenner, our acupuncturist has started a community clinic.  A Community Clinic is a group experience where the healing effects are made more potent by the energy of the group.  We will be gathering in the large front waiting room. Amy will offer acupuncture treatments by appointment only. Please call (207) 542-1575 to reserve your spot.  I will offer chair massages, one after the other, for everyone who shows up. Other practitioners might join us in the future.

Date: It will be every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.

Time: It starts at 5:15 pm and goes to about 6:15 or 6:30 depending on how many people show up.

Since I can only work on one person at a time, I suggest you call ahead and reserve your time slot, especially if you are planning to come later. Or come and prepare to wait a little, surrounded by the relaxing and healing energy of the community setting.

Payment: Camden Whole Health is donating the space and I as well as Amy are donating our time, so the session itself is free. But we are collecting donations to go to the food pantry and hope you generously participate. Again- this is in the spirit of community- if you can’t contribute much, that is fine as well.

Contact: call me at 542-4285 or email info@healingartsmaine.com

I hope this offer is well received.  Please join us and stay well during this holiday season.

What is my first Phenomenal Touch Massage session like?

P1050755

The first session of Phenomenal Touch™ Massage can take up to 2 hours. The intake form you fill out prior to the session will be the starting point to, hear your story as well as establish your comfort level and our boundaries. There is space for you to voice any expectations, goals and concerns.

I step out of the room while you undress to your comfort level and get under the sheets on the table. I will keep you covered during the massage, just uncovering arms or legs being massaged.

We work on the massage table listening to your body’s story, finding spaciousness in tight areas; discovering how your muscles like to be stretched and moved and what feels nurturing and restful. There is no set routine, each session is based on where you are at the moment and what your goals and needs are.

After the massage I will step out and you can observe the changes in your body. When you are dressed you open the door for me to come back in, so we can have a short check in and see what felt great and if there was anything that felt challenging. This is a good time to reschedule your next session. For future sessions it is actually nice to prepay and pre schedule a number of sessions, so you don’t have to deal with logistics after your massage.

Call to set up your first session 207-542-4285

What is different about Phenomenal Touch™ Massage?

P1050740Phenomenal Touch™ is 3-dimensional massage, incorporating stretching and moving the recipient in ways that might include draping limbs over the table, or over the practitioner’s (my) leg or arm, letting gravity pull the weight of the recipient’s body into my hands. Variation in speed is part of the method, and sometimes momentum is used to move the recipient about. I use movement to enter tight areas, finding the spaciousness within restrictions.

Active participation:

The receiver is invited to participate and guide the session with 3 words more, less, stop. I let your breath direct me, as well as any non verbal responses like groans, moans and flinches. If you feel like moving and get into a different position, you can do so, I will follow you.

The more active your participation, the more empowered you might feel and the more your needs will truly be met.

Surrender:

Once you are more familiar with the work, you can use your session to build trust and surrender. It might bring you back to a childlike state of being held and nurtured. Trust needs to be earned, takes time and requires feeling safe. Over the period of a few sessions you will notice a difference in how your body is responding and is able to let go. Giving honest feedback will help me improve your experience.

Once a month I offer 15 min. Mini Sessions, so you can get a feel for my work and personality. This will help you determine if we are a good fit and if this work is for you. Give me a call at 207-542-4285 to reserve your spot.

Why would I receive Phenomenal Touch™ Massage?

Is your body ready for spring?

Ahhh, Spring is here!

We can get outside to do all the projects we thought about all winter long- work or fun. Just remember your body needs to get eased into physical work.  Building stone walls or putting a deck onto your house is heavy work.  So is cleaning up brush or digging up your garden to prepare vegetable beds. Getting on your bike or on a paddle board is requiring your muscles to work very differently than you are used to. Stretching and loosening your muscles is easy to forget, but your body will be very grateful when you remember.  This is a good way to stay healthy and prevent injury. Loose muscles will be able to work more efficiently and not get strained. Receiving a massage after strenuous work will help recover from aches and pains and get your body back in balance.

This is a video I did while still at The Maine Beehive, but the information still applies. Now you can call me directly at 207-542-4285 to schedule your massage to be proactive and stay healthy.

Stay loose, enjoy spring and your projects.
